Our State Capitol is a beautiful, domed building:

There were over 2,600 homeschoolers in attendance as our Governor declared the week "Oklahoma Homeschool Week"!
The proclamation reads:
"Whereas, the Oklahoma Consitution, for over 100 years, has recognized that parents may teach their children at home by providing other means of education; and
Whereas, the State of Oklahoma is committed to excellence in education and recognizes the importance of family participation and the fundamental right of parents to direct the education and upbringing of their children in pursuit of that excellence; and
Whereas, Oklahoma has a significant number of parents who choose to personally teach their children at home, sacrificing their time and talent to provide for their children's educational needs, including academic, fine arts, social, and extra-curricular needs, all at their own expense; and
Whereas, homeschool students exhibit self-confidence and good citizenship and are fully prepared academically and socially to meet the challenges of today's society; and
Whereas, the great State of Oklahoma benefits from homeschooled students' achievements at the collegiate and post-graduate levels, as well as through their contributions to the workforce in a wide variety of professional fields; and
Whereas, many of our exceptional state leaders are currently homeschooling their children and/or were themselves homeschooled such as Senator Steve Russell, Representative Jason Murphey, Representative Joshua Cockroft, Representative Elise Hall, Representative George Faught, and Representative Charles Key;
Now, therefore, I, Mary Fallin, Governor of the State of Oklahoma, do hereby proclaim the week of February 6th through Februarty 10th, 2012 as Oklahoma Homeschool Week."
