The Zoo

Last week was a very difficult week for Mommy and by Friday she decided that she’d had enough insurance and medical work/phone conversations to last awhile and she decided to drop everything else, let us take off school, and she took us to the zoo. We had such a great time! We got to see some new exhibits that were under construction the last time we went.

The picture of the jaguar reminded me of Jacob when he was running from Esau. He used a stone for a pillow, just like the jaguar was. You can read the story in Genesis 28.

We had been at the zoo for awhile when Mommy decided maybe that wasn’t the best idea she’d ever had. William was really looking forward to seeing the animals, but it just wasn’t happening for him. There are usually several exhibits where you can get up close to the animals (usually on the other side of glass), but it seemed they were all closed. The petting zoo was closed when we got there, so that was out. They have a really neat seal exhibit where you can get up close to the seals and really see them, but it was closed due to new construction. Even the penguin exhibit was closed. However, just as he started to get really upset that he couldn’t see anything and Mommy was started to get bothered as well, a pretty flamingo came right over to William and started dancing for him. It was so exciting! William really liked it and kept saying, “faingo, faingo!” Also, an odd black and white bird jumped right out of his pen right in front of William’s stroller and jumped around a bit. There was also a little chimpanzee that sat right in front of William at the window and a crow that would caw at him, while William would caw back. It was like God made those animals do that just for William (and maybe for Mommy) because, if you think about it, how often does a flamingo dance for people? All of the other flamingos ignored us, but that one walked straight over to William, really close, and just started bobbing and dancing and stretching out his wings as if to say, “Here I am, look at me!” It turned out to be just the kind of day we needed and a great reminder that God controls even the smallest of things!
“I remember the days of old; I meditate on all thy works; I muse on the work of thy hands.” Psalms 143:5

“Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou had formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.” Psalms 90:2

By the way, Abby will be posting our new dog’s name next week, so be sure to comment on what you think his name is.

  1. That's so neat the way the animals came right up near you. Isn't it amazing the way God does even those little things! We had a similar things happen the other day...some of my family and I had gone out of town for a night. As we were driving back home the next evening we saw some fireworks in the distance. Yet, as we drove closer it seemed that everytime a firework would go off we would be at a point that it would be hidden by the trees. Then just as we were passing the place where they were shooting them off, they set off a whole bunch of them all at once, and we were able to see them all really clearly. Even though it's a small thing, it was a great reminder, as you said, of how God is in control of EVERYTHING!
