Sidewalking Class

William recently started horse therapy (HippoTherapy). We think it will be helpful for gait control, muscle building, and balance. However, because of his poor balance, he has to have 3 volunteers in the arena, along with the physical therapist. Daddy, Abby, and I took the volunteer class to be his sidewalkers. Because the leader has to be very familiar with a horse, you have to either have horse experience or volunteer for a year as a sidewalker before you can take the leader class. Mommy is going to take their next leader class at the end of the month.

Here are some pictures from our class:

When we actually went to therapy, it was so exciting and went very well! Abby and I got to be his sidewalkers. That was so much fun!

  1. Yea, whoopee, how exciting for everyone!! You spoke about this before but did not know you had located a facility for William! I mentioned this before, but I know your Mommy use to ride, I even met her pony/horse but it was a long time a go. Your Mommy will be very good as leader and you and Abby will be excellent side walkers. I am sure having his sisters by his side will also help William be comfortable with this experience. Questions: How often will William be taking "Hippo Therapy"? How long does a session last and how close to your house is the facility. Are there other children taking therapy at the same time as William? I have heard so many positive things about "animal therapy". What did William think about this? One more thing...when you left the facility..did you notice everyone "smelled" horsey (heehee).
    Once again, very exciting "stuff"
My hopes are high for William!
    Sincerely,
    Jill

  2. Very exciting! We're praying for this new therapy to go well and be very helpful to William! I'm sure you enjoy getting to work alongside William, and I bet he likes it too! It's so amazing to think of all that the Lord has done for him in the two years that we have known ya'll!
Just curious, but why is it called "HippoTherapy" instead of "Equine Therapy"?
Hope you have a lovely week! :D

  4. Hippo therapy sounds great. William is so lucky to have such wonderful and loving parents and sisters. I am sure he will feel very secure with you all as side walkers.
