Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! We sure did! It was a lot of fun, even though we were all disappointed that Calvin did not show up! We are still waiting for him.

Because Mommy was so close to her due date, we did not do any traveling this year for Thanksgiving, but we had a really good time at home. Abby and I planned to do all of the cooking, in hopes that Mommy would either be in labor or taking care of Calvin. We had a great time preparing all the food, though Mommy had to help us a little, especially with timing.

A light breakfast of homemade doughnuts, turkey bacon, and oranges:

For the main meal we roasted a small turkey, brisket, homemade "Birdie Buns," bacon-wrapped smokies, mashed potatoes and gravy, glazed carrots, corn kernels, and fresh berry medley. I made a pecan pie and Abby made a French Silk pie. It is the only pie Mommy really likes. Unfortunately, she has been unable to eat any. We are praying that Calvin comes before it goes bad!

We had a lot of fun opening our Thanksgiving presents! We all got several new outfits, lots of GA Henty books, items for cooking and sewing, to name a few. And we got a zip line! That will be a fun future post!

Elly and Selah were excited about all of their new toys, books, and movies, but were probably the most thrilled with their play-dough! (Daddy thinks Mommy is a glutton for punishment!)

William and Wallace had a great time opening their presents! William got lots of new balls (his favorite toy) and they both really enjoyed their new dinosaur!

After dinner we spent some time singing hymns and praying for different families that we know and thanking God for our many blessings. We had fun playing games and relaxing all day. We each made up our own "Indian" name for the day. We were, in this order, Halewa (Pocahontas' mother), Sacagawea, Flashing Eyes, Pocahontas, Kahnessa (Pocahontas' sister), Little Fox, William Bradford, and Little Red Foot.

The funny story behind Wallace's name is that Sydnee let him pick out his own socks when he was getting dressed and he insisted on the red ones. Normally, he doesn't leave socks on very well unless he has shoes on over them, but he was so proud of those red socks that he left them on all day!

Here are some great Scripture verses on being thankful:

"Give thanks unto the LORD, call upon His name, make known His deeds among the people." 1 Chronicles 16:8

We are told several times:
"Praise ye the LORD. O give thanks to the LORD; for He is good: for His mercy endures forever." 1 Chronicles 16:34, Psalm 106:1, Psalm 107:1, Psalm 118:1, Psalm 118:29, Psalm 136:1, Psalm 136:2, Psalm 136:3, Psalm 136:26

"Sing unto the LORD, O ye saints of His, and give thanks at the remembrance of His holiness." 30:4

"Rejoice in the LORD, ye righteous; and give thanks at the remembrance of His holiness." Psalm 97:12

"O give thanks to the LORD; call upon His name: make known His deeds among the people." Psalm 105:1

"Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: the upright shall dwell in thy presence." Psalm 140:13
"But thanks be to God, which gives us the victory through our LORD Jesus Christ." 1 Corinthians 15:57

"Now thanks be unto God, which always causes us to triumph in Christ, and makes manifest the savor of His knowledge by us in every place." 2 Corinthians 2:14

"Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our LORD Jesus Christ." Ephesians 5:20

"Giving thanks unto the Father, which has made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints of light." Colossians 1:12

"And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also you are called in one body; and be ye thankful." Colossians 3:15

"And whatsoever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the LORD Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him." Colossians 3:17

"In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." 1 Thessalonians 5:18

"By Him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His name." Hebrews 13:15

I hope everyone had a very blessed Thanksgiving and will remember all God's goodness in the year to come!

  1. Sarah, great pictures and thank you for sharing information about your Thanksgiving Day.So much to talk about! Your "light" breakfast looked wonderful. Your pies were beautiful and I bet delicious!! What wonderful cooks you are! When cooking, "timing" is always a challenge. And everyone received such lovely gifts. What a wonderful Thanksgiving your family had!! Your Thanksgiving dresses were perfect along with the names everyone chose for the day. And I too loved Wallaces red socks!! Hopefully we will be seeing pictures of your new outfits soon. Your Scripture verses are wonderful reminders of the fact that what we have has been given to us and we should thank the Lord everyone day for his never ending Love. I am sure you already know, but I think of and pray for your Mommy and Calvin every day. And hopefully Calvin will decide it is time! Altho I was not with Aunt Sunny I too had a loving and joyous Thanksgiving.
    Thinking of you all,
    God Bless,
    Jill A

  2. I love it! What a wonderful Thanksgiving! However, I must say I am shocked about a couple things….. 1) you got a zip line!!!! I thought those were for extreme outdoor adventurers or trapeze artists:) 2) Mommy only likes French Silk pie! What about pecan pie and pumpkin and coconut crème??? Yum yum.
Love your patiently waiting and praying for Calvin Aunt Sunny
