Happy 13th Birthday, Abby!

Saturday we celebrated Abby's 13th birthday. For the 13th birthday (which is a passage into adulthood) Daddy and Mommy use a theme for the presents they give. Last year, for my birthday, it was "The 7 Missions of the Christian Home." This year they used "The 12 Pillars of Biblical Womanhood." We had a lot of fun watching Abby open presents, listening to Daddy's and Mommy's explanations of the gifts and theme, and eating cake and ice cream.

Mommy, Abby, and Daddy

The 12 Pillars of Biblical Womanhood:

  1. An Image Bearer (Genesis 1:26-27) - Book: Young Lady's Guide to the Harmonious Development of Christian Character
  2. A Woman, not a Man (Genesis 2:21-23) - a sweater, shirt, and skirt sewed by Mommy
  3. A Disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ (Deuteronomy 6:7) - DVD: John Wycliffe, The Morning Star
  4. A Member of the Church (Acts 2:39) - Book: Best Church Supper Recipes
  5. A Demonstration of Unfading Beauty (1 Peter 3:3-4) - a facial cleaning set
  6. A Helpmeet (Genesis 2:18) - Book on Animal Husbandry
  7. A Trustful and Submissive Wife (Ephesians 5:22-24) - purity ring
  8. A Keeper at Home (Titus 2:5) - DVD: The Art of Bread Making
  9. A Domestic Entrepreneur (Proverbs 31:10-31) - DVD: The Art of Soap Making and a sewing pattern
  10. A Fruitful Bearer of Children (Genesis 1:27-28) - Book: Be Fruitful and Mulitply
  11. A Teacher of the Next Generation (Ephesians 6:1-4) - DVD: Exposing a Trojan Horse and Book: Fireside Readings Volume 3
  12. A Godly Mentor (Titus 2:3-5) - stationary

Grammy and Papa have left for China so we went to their house on Thursday. They gave Abby a present, some roses, and a bar of chocolate.

Opening presents and talking about their meanings:

This picture is of all of our rings signifying our covenants (Daddy's and Mommy's wedding rings, Abby's and my purity rings).

A purity ring is a ring each of us girls have gotten or will get on our 13th birthday. It symbolizes the covenant between Daddy and, in this case, Abby. Part of the covenant is that Daddy will: protect and guard Abby's heart, mind, and body until the time comes to give her heart to her her furture husband and Daddy will help her to meet and choose the right husband. Abby will: give her heart to Daddy for protection, trust him and submit to his authority, wait patiently on God's timing, and seek Daddy's guidance in choosing the right husband.

Abby and me in the skirts that Mommy made us for our birthdays:

The birthday prayer:

William didn't want to miss out! He sure loves to be with Abby!

In the picture of Abby and me, the pink paper is an acrostic poem I wrote for Abby.

A Sister's Love Is EVERLASTING:

Exceeding ~ I love you exceedingly
Vast ~ I love you near and far, no matter where you are
Enduring ~ Because I love you I want to help you endure your trials
Real ~ My love for you is not fake
Lifelong ~ I will love you all my life
Appreciative ~ I appeciate all you do
Stable ~ My love for you does not waver
Trustworthy ~ You can put your trust in me because I love and care about you
Inpenetrable ~ No one can make me quit loving you
New ~ My love for you grows new every day
Gentle ~ I will not be harsh with you because
I love you!

"A new commandment I give you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another." John 13:34
Happy Birthday, Abby! We love you!

  2. Sarah, thank you for giving us so much information about Abby's birthday. It was wonderful. Very informative regarding the theme for your birthday and now Abby's, "The 12 Pillars of Biblical Womanhood". And then the pictures of Abby with each one of her brothers and sisters! I love your birthday skirts your Mommy made each one of you. Perhaps I have seen them before on your blog but I did not notice it before. They are elegant and the tops/jacket are perfect. You both look beautiful. And William was "right up there" for the cake with Abby! It looks like everyone had a very fun time. I would like to ask about your grandparents going to China. That is a long way away. Are they going on a missionary trip. Have they been there before?
Perhaps when they get back you can share some of their stories if its appropriate. Your poem for your sister is beautiful and so heart felt.
I have only met you once but everyone is growing up sooo fast!!!! Wishing you and your family the Lords Love.
Thank you for a wonderful posting,
    Sincerely,
    Jill

  3. Just a short message to say my husband and I leave for Aunt Sunny's tomorrow. Will be returning to Az. on Mon. 11/16. I will try very hard to get some good pictures at the shower. Uncle Ben & Aunt Sunny are having a BBQ Saturday night at there house so may be I can get pictures there too. Did you know they have a small fish pond in there front yard (decorative) but some animal ate all the fish last week! For some reason that made me laugh...shame on me! Everyone stay safe...if anyone should have a baby boy by the name of Calvin while we're in Ca., be sure and let Aunt Sunny know.
    Sincerely,
    Jill
