Another Wedding

We arrived home from our trip on Friday, and on Saturday we went to a friend’s wedding (no rest for the weary, eh?). The couple wrote their own vows and Pastor Dan Horn gave an excellent sermon on marriage.  He spoke about how marriage is a picture of Christ and His Church and how the bride (the Church) is preparing herself for when the Groom (Christ) will return.  One of the things Pastor Horn mentioned in his message was the different roles each are to play in the home, based on Ephesians 5:22-33; how the wife is to be submissive (v.22) to her husband, as the Church is submissive to Christ (v.24) and she is to respect him (v.33), and the husband is to love his wife as Christ loved the Church (v.24), cherish her (v.29), and be joined as one flesh (v.31).  I love how he explained submission in detail and gave a beautiful picture of it, not the quiet, unspeaking, unthinking idea of a woman that so many people have today, but a wife is to be a helper and counselor to her husband, doing him good and not evil.

I thought it was neat that they had the fathers come up and pray over the couple.

The thing that was the most beautiful about their wedding was that this was the first time either of them have ever kissed anyone. They saved themselves entirely for their future mate...every touch, every heartstring.  This was a great example of what marriage is meant to be. Between one man and one woman. For life.

At the reception both of the fathers gave a speech, as did the groom and his best man (which was his brother), and the mothers both gave some advice to the newlyweds. Afterwards they welcomed any guests to come and give advice to them. It was a very neat wedding!

Brandon and Victoria, may you have many happy years together, filled with God’s richest blessings!

That catches me up! Now, we're on to remodeling and fixing fire damage...whew!  I've already missed getting many pictures of friends helping, as I couldn't find the camera for a bit, but I'll see what I can do in future!
