A BIG "Catch Up on Summer" Post

Wow!  It’s been a busy summer around here!  Aside from visiting/caring for Pappaw and William, we have done many fun things!
In April we attended the “Henry’s” Titanic Dinner. They had a special dinner in memorial of the 100 years since the sinking of the Titanic. We all got to dress up the way they used to dress back in the 1900’s, we had the food they ate the night of the sinking of the Titanic, we watched Quit Ye Like Men, and sang Nearer my God to the Thee (the song they sang as the Titanic sank). It was a lot of fun and I think the “Henry’s” are planning an other one next year!

In May we (all of us girls and Daddy) took Martial Arts. It was a lot of fun and we learned  quite a bit about self defense. We really enjoyed getting to know our instructors and we even took one of them, Mr. P, to Cherry Berry!

We had our first group chicken slaughter, which the “MacDonald’s” and “Brady’s” came to help with. I think we did 10 birds in 2 hours. Even though it was a little gross, we had a lot of fun!

We were blessed to go to the “Kidder’s” for their Memorial Day celebration. Everyone brought guns and we all got to shoot! That was a lot of fun! Catherine out did herself with the hamburgers for the cookout, they were delicious!

William got a new chihuahua in June, the same day he got home from the hospital.  Henry just didn’t work out for our family, but he really seems to be enjoying his new home! William’a new puppy’s name is Bandit and he is Annie’s little brother. He is very sweet and fits in perfectly with our family!  His personality is so much like Annie’s was!  We all adore him!

July was quite the busy month!
We were able to keep the “Colonel’s” goats while they were in Germany. Three of them had kids!  Two sets of twins and a single, three girls and two boys! We are keeping one of the girls and she is very sweet and friendly. She went into shock the night she was born and had to be brought into the house and bottle fed for awhile. She is doing great now and is back with her mother and brother. Maddie and Maple, Faline (ours) and Brisket, and Henty.

After Mrs. “Colonel” and the children got back from Germany they came over to help Sydnee build frames for the bee hives. We had a great time fellowshipping and building frames.

We had a great time celebrating Independence Day at home!  We were also blessed to be able to attend the “Henry’s” 4th of July celebration, although Mommy and William stayed home (he was still fighting illness).  There was more shooting and lots of fellowship and fun!

Daddy and Mommy also had their anniversary in July. We found out that the “Henry’s” anniversary is just two days later, so the “Henry’s” came and spent the night with us while Daddy and Mommy spent a night away.  The next day Mr. and Mrs. “Henry” spent a night away and their children stayed with us. We had a lot of fun playing Catch Phrase, Musical Chairs, and Who is the Animal.  Of course we went to Cherry Berry!

Every year there is a peach festival where you can taste different varieties of peaches and buy fresh peaches. Mommy bought a 3 bushels of peaches to freeze and put up.  Abby canned jam and made delicious peach cobbler (a few times)!

It was such an exciting day when Mr. “Colonel” came home from Germany! His plane was delayed most of the day, so he didn’t get in until about 9pm, but we were so blessed and honored to be there to see his family reunite!  It was so very touching, although I’m very glad Daddy doesn’t have a job that takes him away for a long period of time.  We are so very happy that the “Colonel’s” are all together again and pray they will not be parted again, even for a short time!  A group of us from church met at the airport and after picking up Mr. “Colonel,” we all went to dinner at Ted’s!

August 1st was Chick-Fil-A Appreciation Day. We thought it was important to go show our support of Mr. Cathy and his Christian values. We went to Chick-Fil-A for lunch and waited in line for an hour, just to get to the drive-thru! The line going into the building was no better. A couple of news crews were there.  The line for the drive thru was backed all the way down the street! When Daddy went for dinner the lines were no better. He had to wait inside for 30 minutes!  We were told that it was that way from 6:30am to closing and a couple of Chick-Fil-A’s in our area ran out of food!  I’m glad that so many showed up to support them...not because we dislike anybody, but because Mr. Cathy has a right to express his Christian values without the threat of having his business shut down by officials (other states, not ours).

Well, that almost finishes out the summer.  I’ll save the rest for future posts!
