I hope everyone had a great Independence Day! We had a nice time relaxing, enjoying the cooler weather, and popping/watching fireworks. Everyone is feeling better, but we didn't go anywhere because the AC went out in our van. Daddy is getting it fixed today.
I thought I would post a picture of these pretty flowers. Daddy brought them home to Mommy just because he thought they were neat.
Daddy has been reading to us some interesting stories from colonial times. On the 4th, he read to us about the signers of the Declaration of Independence. I was amazed at everything they gave up for the sake of freedom. Many of them lost all of their material possessions, their homes, some of them lost their lives, some, the lives of their children. And it wasn't only the signers that gave up all they had for freedom. Many colonists gave their all.
Mommy read to us about John Hancock. He was president of the Continental Congress and the first man to sign his name to the Declaration. While signing in large, bold letters on July 4, 1776, Mr. Hancock reportedly said, "There! John Bull (a nickname for England) can read my name without spectacles and may double his reward on my head!" I also found it interesting that the printed version of the Declaration that was sent to all the colonies to be read had only John Hancock's signature on it. The official document wasn't drawn up and ready for all to sign until August 2. It was because of this that John Hancock's name quickly became a symbol of freedom in the colonies, second only to that of George Washington!
Speaking of George Washington, one of my good friends has an excellent post about "The Bullet Proof George Washington" on her blog. You can view it here: http://thefamilycochran.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html

We also had a relaxing 4th. I find it a good time to reflect on all that we have and on all those that came before us. I am not sure I would have be "strong enough or tough enough" to do what was required of them. So glad your Mommy & Daddy shared some of their stories with you. Hope all goes well with fixing the AC in the van. Arizona is having a heat wave of sorts...could be as hot as 116 this week!! Really hope our AC does not break!!
