Happy Birthday, Sarah!

The birthday girl with her banner:

Saturday we celebrated Sarah's 14th birthday! Grammy and Papa came up to help us celebrate.

The birthday prayer:

We were finally able to have cake and ice cream. Sarah wanted a cake that had a green pasture with a creek running through it that said, "He leadeth me beside still waters," from Psalms 23.

Some of the birthday gifts:

We had a wonderful time. Happy 14th Birthday Sarah!

  3. Dear Bethany and Mrs. V.,
Thank you for the sweet birthday comments. Bethany, we bought the cake from the store because, with all the illness (especially William), we didn't have time to make one. Mrs. V., yes, there were actually two new dresses that Mommy made for me and a pearl necklace and bracelet set. I also got 3 new GA Henty books (historical fiction). They are: (1) The Jacobite Exile - I am actually reading this one now. It is about a young Jacobite who joins the foreign legion in the service of Charles XII of Sweden and ends up taking a lead part in several famous campaigns against the Russians and Poles.
    (2) In the Hands of the Cave Dwellers - about the American West and Indian attacks
    (3) At Aboukir and Acre - about Napoleon's invasion of Egypt
The Henty books are very interesting. I really enjoy reading them.
    Love,
    Sarah

  4. Sarah, Two dress, how very nice! I will "google" GA Henty and get a little more familiar with his writings. And hopefully one of these weekends I will go to our local library and see if I can find "him". It sounds like very interesting reading. Historial fiction..a main character on a journey within an actual historical event or a journey taking place in a fictional time and place. I guess I better "google" this author and then I can answer my own question(s). Enjoy your books, it is wonderful that you have started a collections of books...they "never go out of style"! And I was very happy to hear you recieved "pearls" for your Bday. Pearls make wonderful pieces of jewelry - so delicate.
Thank you for the up date.
    Sincerely
    Jill

  5. Mrs. V.,
GA Henty writes books based on actual historical events with historical facts in place and some actual characters, but the main characters are fictional. If you get the chance to read a Henty book, I would start with "IN FREEDOM'S CAUSE." It is my favorite. It is about William Wallace and Robert the Bruce and the fight for Scottish freedom from England. It is very good.
    Love,
    Sarah
